Can the Wii be for hard core gamers?

I own a wii but rarely play it since I bought an xbox. I think the wii is more geared towards younger children and girls. My girlfriend always plays the just dance game on it but I would never get het playing the xbox. Although when I first got the wii I did used to play COD on it and actually thought it was pretty good if you use one of the guns.

I really think it's based to adults more than children and girls. Adults seem to like to get the "fitness" part out of the Wii rather than the game part.

Sadly, for the Wii, it's pretty much impossible to do so, due to the meager third-party support and whatnot. There are still some quality games that hardcore gamers should not pass up, though, like for example, the No More Heroes series and Xenoblade.

Are those online games though? To me, hardcore gaming means online gaming in a more competitive manner.

Agreed, I've always seen the Wii console as more family oriented. As far as an overall gameplay experience, Playstation or Xbox is the way to go for a console.

Like you also said, nothing is wrong with kids being introduced to console gaming by purchasing a Wii. Personally, if Wii had been released back when I was a child, I would've been infatuated with the device!

Wii is a different type of gaming sense. Its more for kids rather than kids at heart.

I've always thought that the Wii was never directed towards hardcore gamers as the games are mainly casual ones. I don't think it can offer games that are as good as the PS4 and Xbox One because of its limitations, like its controls. I doubt it would be easy to do combos with those controls, and even if it was, just think how less of a challenge it could be. Anyways, we have the Nintendo Switch now and it's dominating the market currently.

I think both statements are true. Wii was indeed intended for a different audience and no it cannot offer an experience to match the Playstation or Xbox experience. I think that gaming has evolved. It is now an adult's thing as much as a child's thing. Nintendo has not evolved. While other companies offer options for both adult and children Nintendo holds on tightly to the classics which are good but have not evolved much over the years.

I think the Wii is more for casual players who can't be bothered with the complex controls of games in either a console controller or a keyboard. Wii is just waving your arms around to make the characters move. Perfect for kids new to games as well as their parents who grew up in a different generation, and never learned how to play on a more complicated device. So the very definition of Wii is "casual user", so I don't think there's a thing as "hardcore Wii user".

I'd say that it was possible to play the Wii "hardcore" and quite a few of its games were gems, but that the target audience was not meant for that in general. Most of the use I generally see with the Wii nowadays (because yes, I do see this happening even now) is from the "casual" audience. Many people primarily bought it for the motion controlling features and that's ultimately what helped it sell, to the point where its competition tried to replicate that. At this point, you can find a hardcore gamer for just about any genre or system, and so I see no point trying to play the "no true Scotsman" card.

I hear the motion detection thing gets pretty redundant fast. The Star Wars game for example, you'd think being able to simulate lightsaber action would be fun for the most hardcore gamers and Star Wars fans, but it's just flicking your wrist on the detector to do most of the actions such as deflecting bullets and basically using the sword. You don't really feel like you're in the game since you jog in place, jump just enough to get detected, etc.

This. The Wii itself isn't for hardcore gamers, but it had some hardcore games (definition may vary). I mean, I wouldn't exactly call games like Metroid Prime Trilogy, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Super Mario Galaxy 1/2, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Okami, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn and so on as so forth casual. If you want to play serious game, you can, but we can't deny that casual games greatly outnumber the hardcore ones.

By definition, a 'hardcore gamer' is a gamer who excels at a game they play. The last time I checked, such products on the Wii console are also called games so I don't see why gamers who are really good at a Wii game can't be acknowledged as being highly skilled.

First, we have to define hardcore. For it's the tough player who seeks intense emotions. So to seek these emotions he often chooses to play intense games. Genres like Action, Adventure, RPGs and all that. Last I checked Wii's primary target audience was not those games but rather the family friendly gamer who enjoys a casual play here and there and of course kids. So can the Wii be for hardcore gamers? Depends on your definition of hardcore. But for no, it's definitely not.

I think PS Vita, Wii and few other franchise may come in with tablet type of concept. Because those type of the devices would be in demand. And considering Sony and Wii are into the family gaming experience. It'd be fair to say that they can launch a better product too. I am just speculating on this though. Who knows what could be the end product from those companies.

I would argue that it would be best to try to stop shoving yourself into other people's definitions. "Hardcore gamer", as a title, bestows neither honor nor wealth on your name! It's an amorphous term who's definition changes depending on who you're talking to and what their moods are today. The problem with such labels is that it narrows your field of view by setting up unrealistic or unnecessary standards that are inherently exclusionary. Why would you do that to yourself? Do you expect to live forever? Time and resources are limited, therefor you need to be very cautious about what your standards are. Make sure you're setting the definitions for yourself. Instead of asking whether the Wii can be "hardcore", ask "does it have games I think I might enjoy?". You are the one who's going to play those games for yourself so don't let other people tell you if they're good or not. You decide.

If I did buy a gaming system it would be the Wii, especially Wii fit. It can encourage you to be active and lose weight. I know people who have lost 100 pounds or more simply by using a Wii fit. I think you probably need the balance board to find the best gaming experience though.

I wouldn't think there would be any good competitive games for wii in the first place. Other than just getting a couple of World Records here and there on select games that's about it really.
