Introduction
Originally, Sleeping Dogs was meant to be the next game in Activision's series called True Crime. In 2008, United Front Games teamed up with Activision to make the third game in the True Crime Series, True Crime: Hong Kong.
On February 9, 2011, Activision decided to cancel the game because they didn't think it was good enough to compete with other open world games.
Square Enix picked up the publishing rights to the game but not the series, so they renamed it to Sleeping Dogs.
Getting Started
You play as Detective Wei Shen, who was sent to Hong Kong to go undercover and infiltrate Sun On Yee and take them down. The game begins during a drug deal in a Shipping Harbor while under surveillance by the Hong Kong Police. The police are forced to intervene when the buyer killed a security guard and Wei is arrested. While in prison, Wei gets offered to join the gang “Sun On Yee” by an old friend.
Game Play
The game is open world, played like a third-person shooter, with some role-playing elements. In a way, it's kind of like Grand Theft Auto. Story-line missions are necessary to progress through the game, you can free-roam and there are tons of other things to do in the city like joining fight clubs, karaoke, betting on cockfights and participating in street races.

Graphics
The graphics are kind of similar to Grand Theft Auto and Saints Row 3, but better. It feels very real, like you're really in Hong Kong.

It's like GTA. There's plenty to do and explore outside of the story.
