To be honest isn't Starcraft 2 a rts? If it is there are way more fps/action players than rts. So honestly I don't see how Starcraft 2 could have more players than a action game like Mass Effect 3.

Yes, it is an RTS. And yes, there are more fps players than RTS. But Starcraft 2 is one of the most popular, if not the most popular, RTS games ever made.

And Starcraft 2 does have more sales by a long shot since ME3 is only above 2.25 million and SC2 had sold 4.5 million between August 2010 and December 2010. The past two years I cannot find, which has to be a few more.

Number of sales does not matter if no one plays it.

But people do play it. Every time I login it says that there are over 500,000 people or over 1,000,000 people logged in. Trust me, it's most popular.
