Your Thoughts On The Rise Of Facebook Games?

I find most things associated with facebook to be obnoxious since all of the related apps are designed to be advertisements and ad servers. I don't particularly understand why someone would play those titles instead of just downloading something on their phone since the design philosophies...

How often do you buy new games?

It all depends on what's out there at any given time. If the stuff I want is coming out rapid fire I'll go on a spending spree. If the current crop of titles doesn't do it for me I may end up almost abandoning gaming for a time. On average I probably go about a game every two months with spikes...

    Are You Losing Interest Too?

It's totally normal to have these ebbs and flows to our interests. You can only walk through the same door so many times before you're no longer surprised by what you see on the other side. Maybe it's just time for you to invest in a different hobby. Take a generation off and have a different...

    A hundred and still going!?

I like lasers. Any kind of sci fi space shooter gets me going. The flashier, the better, too! Halo had a lot of great alien guns, as well as excellent human guns which were reminiscent of actual weaponry so there was a good mixture.

    Favorite horror game?

Going to have to go with Silent Hill. The original is still the best! From the very beginning it is tense as you walk through that mist with eerie sounds happening all around you. Otherwise, it's silence. The atmosphere in that game has never quite been recaptured by any of its sequels as far as...

What moment ruined a perfectly good game?

For me it was the end of Other M. I didn't even have an idea that I was fighting the last boss. It was so dumb, too! It was a wave of cockroach critters that Mother was supposedly controlling. That game's narrative was as bad as everyone says it was but the gameplay was okay. Not the best, but...

Do you ever feel bad at killing someone in games?

Never. I've never lost sight of the fact that you're not killing people in a game. You're "killing" pixels and object-oriented programming instances. I think it's important we, as gamers, make sure this narrative is out in front of everything we do. There are powerful interests who seek to use...

    PC Mini Games

I don't spend my time with them at all. As far as I'm concerned, that's cell phone fare that has little place on the pc. I like my games to be fully fleshed out and the gameplay to be a part of a larger narrative. This rig cost plenty of money so I expect to get the most out of it.

What has the best game of 2017 been so far?

Splatoon 2! It's so much fun playing with the squids and splatting ink everywhere. It's the best sort of shooter for me because it actually weights the objective higher than the frags which forces you to either use teamwork or lose. Too many games are designed for you to be a one man army and...

    Best obscure games you loved?

I'm not sure how obscure it is, but Populace was a game I enjoyed a lot as a kid. You play as a god who manipulates the land to make life better for your followers. Meanwhile the computer plays a devil character who does the same. The whole thing culminates in an Armageddon in which the two...

Moments in games where you just want to smash the controller

Contra. The whole game. I'm simply terrible at these bullet-hell games and it's one of the earlier examples of that design ethos. I've never beaten it without the code after all these years. Sometimes event he very generous 30 lives isn't enough. I'm not proud to say I've lost after using it...

    Soccer games or racing games?

I love racing games but only if they're super arcadey. For instance, I don't like Forza at all but I adore F-Zero. I'll play Mario Kart all day long and I spent kind of a silly amount of time playing Beetle Adventure Racing back on the N64. I love high speed action and track that twist, turn...

If you were stuck on an island and only could have one game, what would it be?

I would probably choose Minecraft. No matter how long a game is, it will eventually end. You'll have seen everything, been everywhere, beaten all the baddies. With Minecraft there's no hard limit. There'll always be something new to build so long as you have a mind to imagine with. I think it...

    Indie games

Shovel Knight is one of the best Indy games ever made! It comes with three different campaigns and a hard mode as well. The story is very charming, the cast of characters memorable, and the music is as good as any classic Capcom chip-tunes from the SNES days. Another good one you've probably...

    How long has it been?

It's been about 8 hours and I'm getting ready to have another session! I've been playing Splatoon 2 lately and it's super good. Every few days there's a mode unlocked called salmon run which is a co-op mode. It's one of the best new features of the game and I just can't get enough.

What are some good games you can play over and over again?

I've been throwing in a copy of Super Mario Bros ever since I first got it back in the 80s. Megaman 2 is another I relive on a semi regular basis. At least once a year I do an all-Megamans run in which I play through th entire catalogue of original releases in the first series.

    How to overcome gaming addiction?

There's no particular secret to overcoming addiction of any type. Stop doing the thing you shouldn't be doing. As a former smoker I know how easy it is to say that, and how monstrously hard it can be to actually do it. But that doesn't change anything. Put away the damaging behavior and replace...

    First game you bought?

The first game I remember buying was Godzilla, Monster of Monsters for the NES. I had a wad of birthday money and a love of crazy old monster movies. I can honestly say I was not disappointed! My only real gripe about the game was Godzilla never got to smash his way through any buildings.

    Easy or Hard?

He did a no-kill run. He got to max level by working professions! I mean, I'm not going to sit here and tell you I'm planning my own flower-picking run or anything, but that is wild. It must have taken him years, especially in a game not at all designed for that sort of play style.

    What game made you laugh?

Undertale is another game that really made laugh. Humor is present in almost every scene in the game and it serves as a juxtaposition set-up to heavier themes of loss and the transience of life present in the game's pay-off scenes. There are numerous times I found myself sitting there giggling...
