Most of the time i'll play the demo first before purchasing it. Sometimes i'll just go ahead and buy it and hope it isn't completely crappy.

I like watching the trailers before buying a game, gives me a sense of what's going on and how it's gonna turn out. I usually look to my Nintendo Channel on Wii to tell me about new games. Also a friend recommends a game to me, or i look at the back cover of it so I know what to expect out of it.

Lately, I haven't purchased any game as I've been focusing on saving money for other things but I usually watch trailers and read the reviews. I sometimes ask my friends if they have the game I am interested in and ask for their opinion. If I'm gonna spend some money on the game I should be sure that I am going to like playing it.

I watch trailers, look at reviews and sometimes I will rent the game if I am not sure about the game. I have been burned so many times on bad games that I don't take chances anymore. I want to know everything that I can find out about a game before I decide to buy it. Because these days with the price of everything $60 is a lot of money to waste.

Honestly, I never purchase games. I play free ones or I don't play. I just need my money more at this point in time than buying games I
may grow tired of in a relatively short period of time. Maybe it won't be this way forever, but for now it is!

I love to watch trailers,but that doesn't influence my choice when purchasing games. I feel that some game trailers are highly exaggerated,and therefore I prefer to play the demo to get the feel of the game.

Hey, everyone, I try to play the game at a friends house if possible, if not then I like to rent the game for a day or two. I use to rent a game at this mom and pop game store and play it for a few days if I liked the game I would buy it from them, they place would take the rental price of off the purchase price so it was a great place to get games, you could do it with game consoles also. However, where I live at now I don't know any place that does that. I have to ask around and find out.

Of course. It will give you more information and an in depth feel of the game and that will usually give you a perception which could help you decide if you like it or not.

Normally, I'll watch the trailer but avoid playing the demo version (if available). Personally, I feel when I play the demo, it can somewhat spoil and give away too much of the game to come. I prefer being surprised about certain aspects of gameplay, rather than knowing what to expect. Unless it's a title release I've been waiting in high anticipation for, I'll skip the demo.

Yes, I usually watch trailers and first impressions on youtube. Game reviews are usually spot on (depending on the reviewer) and would give insights if I really wanted to buy the game or not.

I must say that sometimes I do play the demo first before to buy a game. I don't play a demo only when any of my friends own the game and I play on his PC. or it tells me about it if it worth to buy or not. I don't buy a game without to try it first or have references from my friends!

Absolutely! As an older gamer you tend to find a lot of software has a sort of "sameyness" to it. It gets harder to be surprised by the hobby when you've spent decades involved in it. Because of that, it's so easy to purchase a game that leaves you with buyer's remorse. And that's not necessarily an indictment of the game itself more so than being over exposed. All of this lead me to a habit of vetting my potential purchases very carefully. I watch a lot of videos, check user reviews, and even use rental services to check out a title before I pull the plug. It's a bit tedious but I can honestly say it's been a long time since I've paid for a dud because of it. My personal library is very well catered to my tastes.

It used to be that I would watch all the trailers I could, and if I was lucky I'd get my hands on a demo or rent it. If I decided it was good enough, then I would purchase it. This strategy would often be hit or miss. But with the advent of Let's Play channels on YouTube, I've been able to more accurately decide whether I want to purchase a game or not. This is because we get to see the game played in a casual environment with regular people, which is a lot more honest than gameplay trailers. Based on the experience from the Let's Play, I can get a better idea for whether I might like the game or not.

I don't normally watch trailers - not even for movies - because I think that there are just two types of trailer, both bad. One is the trailer that spoils too much, the other is the trailer that lies, showing a edited gameplay with lot of cool stuff you'll never do.
Demo? Are them still around?
Usually I just watch the screenshot and the description on the Steam store. If I like them, I give an eye on the reviews (both negative and positive), to see what people like and don't like about the game.
And then the price and, of course, if it's on sale.
It sounds like a long process but it only takes a few minutes, or even less.

I have learned from my mistakes of not trying out games through other means before buying the actual game itself. I wasted a lot of money that I purchased on a whim, despite it not being sale. This is the advantage of having an interesting gameplay trailer on Steam, to attract potential buyers into buying the games.
If you bought a game on Steam and are not quite sure about keeping it, consider reading reviews and do not play the game for more than 2 hours to be eligible for refund.
