Exactly! If it's a mutual agreement I don't see the problem in gambling or betting at all.

Yeah. When there is the consent of both parties, the problem doesn't exist. :smirk: But some more extremist people mix things up. :persevere:

I am always against gambling and it has never occurred to me to bet on games. I think it's a great way to lose money quickly. Some people might be lucky enough to make some money on it but better not risk it.

However lucky a person may be, I think one day the luck will go away (and the person may not be ready for it :palpatine:).

You are right it does change the game. In Fall out Las vegas once i got to the casino's i played black jack until I got enough money to by the better weapons that I could and enough ammo to last me through most of the game. I think it was cheating and kinda took some of the game experience away. :)

If it was just an experiment and you didn't get addicted, you might be considered as a lucky one. For many people it is enough to play only once to enter in a path possibly without a return.

I do not bet on anything at all. It has never been in my nature to want to gamble hence my cold attitude towards anything that relates to that. Even if I could win, I can not feel satisfied spending money I somehow stole. That peace of mind is just not there for me. Besides, gaming should not tie you to an obligation to win at all cost. It's okay if you are rewarded but never cool to want to win at all cost. My opinion...
The idea of "winning" for a bet really brings out the worst in people. You see people flaming, people yelling, people rage quitting; just basically dragging everybody down with them just because money - and not even real money, sometimes even just virtual currency - would make them hungry to win. If you want to play a game just for fun, then this is definitely not for you.

I tell you. This defeats the meaning of "game" or "gaming". At least that's how I see it. It's more like laying your life on the line for something as cheap as a game (the same which could have been entertaining and much fun when you minus bet).

Video games are for leisure. Kids all over the planet use it to waste time and enjoy themselves. I remember going after school to play games just for the fun of it. Now kids my age then are subjected to Dota 2, CSGO, etc. where you can bet on the matches, you can compete for MMRs, you can compete for a chance to win skins. It's taking the focus out of the games themselves and make it more on the things you can gain/lose from every game.

I'm sorry if this question seems out of place but I just need your opinion.
What can be done to bring sanity back? I mean, if we lose our kids to 'games' and 'gaming', it is still quite fair other than losing them to betting. Since time wasted can never be redeemed, I guess it is best we help our kids invest their time in more productive activities.
What's your say?

I do not bet on games. You can waste your money. I would rather spend my money on a gaming console or a new game.

Betting is basically just gambling lite
If you bet on CSGO games I think theirs probably a higher chance you'll become a gambler one day. The odds are never in your favor so the longer you play the more likely you'll get a net deficit from gambling or betting.
In other words no betting is baaaad.

The most me and my friends bet when gaming is lunch. Like on a Saturday afternoon we'll game together and bet lunch on the loser. So whoever loses a few rounds of Street Fighter or MK has to foot the bill for Pizza, Chinese or Mickey D's.

On my previous work, during our lunch, we do play need for speed and race with my officemates, even with my supervisor and we always do bet to whoever wins the finish line. Of course, we secretly do that without our Boss' consent. We either play that game or just take a power nap.

Many gamers see fun in betting over games while others see it as not so a good thing to spend money on.
I personally know people who put money on top of their games so that the winner takes all the money away.
Majority of them spend all their monies and resort to begging before they can go back to their houses.
Honestly, I haven't bet on any video game ever. Lol.
Have you or not?
Do you encourage it?

I have placed bet on games several times, especially football game and wrestling games. I happen to be good at wrestling fight but not that good in PES football game compared to the guy I always bet with.

He always beat the hell out of me and I still always come back for more in order to get my revenge on him but he still beat me again. So I have actually given up on fighting him on the football game ever again.

I do not bet on games my money is enough to pay in the computer shop for 3 hours of gaming. But in case of others gamers will ask me to bet on the game and if I have extra money then I'm on. It will motivate me to be more competitive in the game anyway.

Yep, we do that a lot in the late 90's playing Multiplayer via dial-up, and we bet on computer parts, mobile phones and other gadgets. I used to play a lot of StarCraft back then.

Not really, I don't really like gambling when it's all up to luck, I prefer betting on stuff that takes skill, e.g. poker or betting against someone when I'm playing the game myself since at that point it's not just about luck but about my skill as a player.
