Does Anyone Still Play Runescape?

I used to be a huge fan of Runescape until it started going downhill in 2013. If I ever were to start playing hard again I'd play on the "oldschool" servers instead of the actual game lol
I still go on once in a while to see what's up but other than that I don't go on often.
Does anyone here play still Runescape or oldschool?

I still play Runescape 2 tho but very rarely now days like all the games it died out recently too but yes I used to Play it a lot.

Ah Rune Scape, the days of old; the days of gold, so many an hour spent mining that ore, battling that troll, but the fondest memories I have were of just socializing with other players and trying my hunt to get a legendary Party hat, I spent more time talking to other players and hanging out than I did grinding; I think, sure I got my level up to 60 or 70 or whatever that is now, but just gambling my mils away and being borrowed a party hat was fun to me too.

I actually just started playing Old School Runescape with some friends. I haven't played since 5th grade which was like 10 years ago. This is quite the nostalgia trip...

I started back onto playing Old School Runescape recently and I have bought the special membership promotion that's going on this summer. It's filled with nostalgia for me and I have really missed it.

I have not played it seriously in quite a long time - - probably not since they moved on to RS3 - - but just the other month I decided to check up on it a bit. The amount of changes were just absolutely overwhelming and I was not prepared for it at all, haha. It was quite intimidating to be honest, and it couldn't keep my interest.

So instead I checked up on how the Old School RS servers were going, and while it was nice for a few hours, it feels sad to say that I think I've outgrown Runescape. I think I'll log in now and again for the sake of nostalgia, but I don't think I'll ever be able to play it as dedicatedly as I used to in my early teens.

I consider myself a "New Age" Runescaper because I started quite a lot later than most. I started with RS2 and played all the way through to Evolution of Combat. After which, I graduated University and "became a boring adult". I really enjoyed my Runescape days, making videos and training (I'm not big on PK). Some people didn't like the addition of Dungeneering, but I loved it! Got too emotionally involved with other players as I tend to do on MMORPG. I'm quite proud of my character with 17 99s.

I've tried to get back into it, but failed. The thing that got to me is feeling like I needed to complete all the "daily tasks" in order to keep up, which made it feel more like a chore than a game. I still casually log in to have a chat with people and slowly max out some of my other grind skills. Add me if you'd like : xANGEL_FATEx

Yes. I still play Runescape but not the latest RuneScape but Old School RuneScape.
Those of you which haven't heard or OLRS may be wondering, "WHAT, there's somewhere where I can play the RS which I use to play?"
And the to that is YES there is a verson of the 2001 version for free to play and has thousands of players on constantly and a 2006 version for those who have Jagex Membership. And yes, Jagex runs these servers so it is a legit thing.

But back to the topic. I do play RS but only Old School. Not 2006 but 2001 as the membership is too expensive to play so yes, people still play Runescape, though in my opinion, the new RuneScape sucks and I can barely call it Runescape.

I used to play RuneScape with my brother. He was a lot better than me though ;-P But that was years back, I checked it out recently, but I wasn't as in love with it as I used to be. Maybe I just loved it because my brother was playing it, maybe not, but who knows.

I've only played RuneScape once in my life as a kid, and quickly lost interest.

My grandmother, on the other hand, played the game religiously for years, and did return to the game for part of last year, though she wasn't as impressed with it as it used to be. She can't stand when they change things/make the game more difficult to navigate (in her opinion). Since then she's stuck to Solitaire.

Runescape has a timeless appeal to me. The game is so massive, with so many different pieces of content, that I am able to adventure into something totally new at the drop of a hat if I so wish. On the other hand, I am also able to repetitively complete the same actions over and over again within my small bubble of familiarity.

I haven't played Runescape in YEARS. Reading this thread gave me so much nostalgia though. Runescape was my first RPG multiplayer game ever. At the time, I always thought it's so amazing looking (don't mock) and the best possible game out there but then World of Warcraft came and I switched to that. Ever since I began WoW, I stopped Runescape. I think it would be too hard to juggle both games at the same time.

I remember that I had maxed magic and archery on Runescape (among other things) but I don't even remember the password anymore. For me, the game itself is too outdated graphics and gameplay wise.

Runescape has changed a lot since it's "olden days" still a great classic game that will play a big part of a gamer's history. I used to make videos and stuff. I recently met a new friend who games a lot and we both burst out laughing when we talked about Runescape. Very nostalgic. I even shown him my cringe-worthy RS vids. To be fair, I started Runescaping quite late in life, only when I was 21.

I loved Runescape when I was younger. I never even had a paid membership. I always just played on the free servers, but I still spent so much time on there just trying to level up my stats. I think I spent the most time trying to level up my woodcutting because that is how I thought I could make the most money (by selling logs--yew, maybe?).
Then maybe half a year ago I decided I wanted to start playing again and realized there is a completely new Runescape. I tried that for a little bit but was overwhelmed. So I tried Old School and was underwhelmed. :tearsofjoy: I went back onto new Runescape and changed the settings a bit to make it seem more like the old one and started trying to level up my player again. It is pretty fun still. Leveling up is monotonous, but there is something I like about repetition. I will always have good memories of the game.

They are trying to keep the game and probably the company alive by re-designing this MMORPG to appeal to a "newer generation. attempting to follow the latest graphic and control styles of newer games. This, in my personal opinion, doesn't really fit well with the concept and the original gameplay of Runescape. What they have done is essentially created a whole new game, sadly splitting its entire community in half.

It was a game designed for the early days of the internet, and the ones who are still playing were the people who started 5-15 years ago and are playing for nostalgic reasons. This is why Old School Runescape are what most people here prefers, because that's the Runescape they know and love.

Never actually got into it myself, it seemed like a real drain of time and for many people, money. I tend to get addicted to competitive multiplayer games too easily, so something like this would be horrible for me. The mechanics and overall premise of the game seemed pretty interesting though and I guess a remaster would be quite well received.

Yeah, I mean, I do get that. The concept makes sense, but when they see it isn't working, you'd think they'd go with what does work.

Yep, they did the same thing with WoW. By making the game practically unrecognizable to old school players, they definitely created a divide in the community.

Oh, I get the nostalgia thing, but I think it's even more than that. People were having fun. The memories and nostalgia are also about the good times they had, not just how the game looked and felt. I think it's fond memories of those good times that drive people to want to do it all over. New iterations very rarely seem to offer the same level of fun and camaraderie.
