Easy or Hard?

I'll like to say that I love challenging games! and I do but sometimes I just want to chill and pass time and I can do that with simpler games. So I'll say it depends on my mood and how I feel at that point. When I feel like thinking I would go with strategy and challenging games but when I'm feeling lazy, I'll look for easier games with simpler tasks!

Most of the time I start on normal(meduim) because I still want a bit of a challenge while I also don't want the game to be too difficult because I still want to learn the game and have fun. If a game is too hard on normal I'll just change it to easy. If a game is too easy on normal I'll just change it to hard.

I always used to go for the easy difficulty first because I wasn't sure what ''easy'' is. Some games make ''easy'' like you're playing with your grandmother but then you have some companies that make ''easy'' like you're trying to compete as a professional gamer. But nowadays I just brace myself and start on the normal difficulty. Usually, it's the right mixture and I enjoy it while doing my first play through. After I am done with the normal difficulty I love to switch up to hard just to see how challenging it is. I mean, why not if it's there? Might as well test it out

I like to play hard games, I like the challenge and the hard work I do, passing a level. This makes me desire more and more to play a game, and this is what brings me back and not make me get bored of it. What are the fun and challenge if you play an easy game that you finish without to struggle!

I usually play on medium difficulty most of the times. If it is a very difficult game then for the first levels I usually choose the difficulty to be easy. I play mostly for fun and as this is my hobby. I don't play on hard difficulty as this will make the game less enjoyable.

First time I play a game, I usually just play it for the plot and to have some fun, usually on medium difficulty. If I ever get back to the same game, after finishing it, I go for the hardest difficulty and make a challenge for myself. If I play it on hardest difficulty on the first try, I get frustrated after a while, if I happen to die and it takes all the fun away.

I am 42 years old now and my reaction time is gone and I don't want to bang my head off the desk because I am spending 4hrs trying to get past a part that I could have gotten past in 5 minutes on easy.

Interesting point to be discussed: the level of difficulty. I think When compared years ago, the current level of difficulty is very precarious and kinda limited.

The level of difficulty has to be gradual. I don't think it's cool to start playing a game in the most difficult way it has.

It's a terrible choice to make.

I always choose the hard difficulty for the chalenge of course, it makes the game more fun and i think that i will get bored if i play the easy mode.

But do you ALWAYS (I mean, every single time :sweatsmile choose the hardest mode or are you getting used to the pace of the game at easier levels first?

If there was an intermediate option I would choose that xD. If a game is fun and easy I wouldn't mind that as well. If it gets too hard for me then it becomes a pain in the butt and is not fun at all.

I always set my game one difficulty higher than normal. I don't really encounter any difficulty when Playing normal so I usually turn up the difficulty one notch so that it becomes challenging.

I choose both because sometimes I like playing easy games for fun, it is more relax than playing hard games.
If you are a professional gamer, I am sure you will like playing the hardest difficulty games because it will improve your skills.

It all depends on my mood. Sometimes I like to just sit down and go through the motions of a game I've long since beaten. I'll pop in an old SNES game on those evenings. Other times I'm riled up and eager for a fight so I'll put in something hard or unfamiliar. My favorite titles I end up playing through casually the first time so I cans imply sit back and enjoy the ride, and then I return to them with a "kitchen sink" mentality where I anticipate seeing everything, and beating everything the game throws at me.

Yup, there are days when you just want to take it easy, while some times you really want the game to throw everything that it has on you. People even do armorless runs, pacifist runs, or even trying to beat the game on the highest difficulty using the weakest weapon in the game. Other times you just want the game to be easy enough to waste time on while not being frustrated by dying a lot and restarting.

I like challenging games, but going in blind on hardest mode setting is suicide. I always go with the medium setting (I don't think I've ever chosen the easy one), since it allows you to enjoy the game and its plot at the same time, and then choose harder modes to keep things interesting. For exploration and completing games to 100% I prefer to stay on the lower difficulty, if I can. It would easily become frustrating, otherwise.

I don't know, most of the games I play I have played for awhile som most of them are pretty easy for me. Somedays when I want a challenge I might play something that I haven't played as much, and it will be a challenge for me. I think we all need that challenge aspect from time to time.

Challenge is different from frustration though. There's 2 achievements in Ori and the Blind Forest where you have to finish the game on the hardest difficulty while not dying not even once. For other games, sure, that's doable if you are careful. But the thing is, Ori is more of a platform game like Mario, so you still have life bars and all that, but landing on spikes kills you instantly. And you have to play basically a perfect game without any mistakes. In a game where it's an average to die at least 100 times, you're gonna have to do it in one go.

Yes, I think you are right. I think when you get to the point where you are frustrated it is time to do something else. Maybe if you quit and go back to it you will have success the next time you do it. You never know. There is an old saying, if at first you don't succeed, try, try and try again.

I am with most of the users here in that it depends on the game. In some RPG's I just prefer to enjoy the story as it is laid out and feel like the hero as I adventure through the lands. I want to EASILY defeat the black dragon and save the princess because I am the hero and it makes me FEEL like a hero to do that. Of course, there are other games, typically when I am being competitive with people that I do want to be difficult. I want to feel like the time that I have invested into learning the mechanics of the games and the general over all strategy is going to pay off and I am going to be able to be better than someone who just wonders into the game.
