Ebola - what do you think of it?

So, unless you've been living under a rock for the past couple of months, you'd be aware of the devastating, sudden outbreak of the Ebola virus. With the virus now have being spread to America, who knows who else has contracted it in the U.S. Current records are showing that Ebola has killed roughly 4033 people, with a high chance that it could have been spread to family members and friends before the virus had began to show symptoms, who could then spread it further, and so on. Cases are recorded at around 8400 and that's predicted to grow by 230% over the next 4 weeks. That number that I stated just before, 4033, is said to be doubling every 3 weeks and Ebola could easily become transmittable through air, leading to more and more deaths.

Although there is a cure in the making, no-one knows how long it will be until testing has been finalised and it will be available to start eradicating the virus from humans, but then again, viruses can rapidly mutate and evolve to become immune to the vaccine.

To be quite honest, I'm scared. Very scared. What are your thoughts on Ebola? Reckon we will be able to control it in time?

At the moment Ebola can still only be transmitted via close contact, but if it ever becomes transmittable through air we are in for a lot of trouble. What governments around the world need to do is to take airport border security much more seriously. All the cases outside of Africa arose due to lax procedures, with people allowed to return back home and do whatever the hell they want despite having been in contact with Ebola patients recently.

I don't think that it's so hard to quarantine every person going out of Africa for the 21 days. The inconvenience is a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Indeed, that is true but it won't take too long for it to easily become airborne. The U.S have started using more measures against it (I believe New York, although others are adopting it, as they should - according to the news) which will hopefully decrease the likelihood of it spreading further in the U.S.

It wouldn't be hard at all, but being quarantined for 21 days is quite a while for say, someone who has to work to support a family. Unless the government were to compensate for this I don't think it'd get much public support, even if it is for the best.

But like you said, we can't live under a rock and can't detect it sooner to prevent it! I just expect that airport security measures will be amplified and that each person will take their safety as a personal task.

Welp, shit just got real. Remembering how bad SARS was a decade ago, and how much international travel has actually increased since then, airborne transmission to other nations can occur much faster and easier now compared to 10 years ago.

Quarantine procedures need to be enforced ASAP to keep the number of cases low. Once they start to increase exponentially there is no stopping this... :<

I'm not scared really but I have a friend who lives down the street from someone who had it and a couple of blocks from the hospital in Texas.. she said she's moving out of state lol She said she wishes she was still in the UK.

I'm truly terrified with it. Especially if it doesn't get controlled, we'll be in for a world of trouble, literally. However I'm not scared of my own death due to it, we all die eventually, some sooner than later.

I agree with you, CosmicOdyssey! Worrying doesn't help! But it not also good to be careless. Nothing said that you should be infected by the virus. You can be careful and take necessary measure to keep your healthy condition... if possible !

I don't watch the news, so i guess that you can say that I do live under a rock. I barely know what is going on around the world, and you know what?, i'm okay with it. That is how I like it.

I don't watch the news because its all about fear. I'm not a promoter of fear. I think that as a human living in a crowded planet with other humans...we do really well. We walk around strangers everyday, and we do well, but then when something like the news comes on and we watch the news, it makes us seem really bad and it puts fear in our minds. And we become paranoid and try to potect ourselves.

I don't recommend watching the news. Sure, you need to be aware, but be aware of you own self first. By watching the news, (which to me is a negative thing), you only attract more negative things into your life. Some people say that Ebola is a rumor, and some say that it's very real. My opinion on it is that it's real, but it's probably not as bad as they say it is. They are probably trying to scare you. It's their job to create fear and chaos.

So just live your lives. Don't be too concerned about it. Don't think about it too much. Just focus on your own life. I know that it may sound selfish, but at the end of the day, you are all you've got. And if you really do focus on yourself and put tourself first, you will not get hurt. You will be happier. Stay and focus on your reality and you will create the reality that you want. I have learned that from many experiences, lots of them. I'm tellin you..that "Law of attraction" thing, is very real. I hope you all get what I'm saying, or what I'm trying to say.

It a very real thing, but at the same time I think that it was something that was blown out of proportion to put fear into the masses. I mean, Ebola has been around for years, but for some reason everybody started catching it all of a sudden? What exactly happened? Was it ever explained?

Apparently a child first got it from playing around an old tree where fruit bats used to (and I guess still do) live.

The study suggests that the boy’s exposure to the bats, not previous suggestions of villagers eating the meat from fruit bats, was the first instance of the transfer of the current virus from animals to humans.

It's bad, yes. It's also getting more attention than it should. There are worse things, AIDS, cancer, etc. There is only a very small part of Africa that has it, and for that matter not even that many people have it.

I never heard about it till some kids were joking about it in class. I asked what it was and what I heard sounded completely outrageous and didn't seem legit. I googled it and found out that was actually happens. I was scared and wasn't planning to visit Africa.
