Cheap and basic won't handle the game right and it tend to not last that long when the heat is on as you type and move very fast. And from playing from an School pc keyboard you can tell that the speed isn't there when you shot, like playing Halo one for an example.

If you all into gaming then you need to get gaming gear. My Keyboard was $180 back then and till this day I still got it and love it. It's an Logitech G510 and my mouse is an Razer Naga 2012.

Some say get an mechanical keyboard! well it's not the case, you still can get an very good one that's not an mechanical keyboard and at least it doesn't make an load noise. lol

Lol. There are mechanical keyboards who don't give tactile noise. And it also depends on the type of switches that you are using. Of course the manufacturers think about the noise so they made a silent mechanical keyboard variant also.

Ummm, I am using the simplest keyboard and I have no issues. Actually, I have never had issues with them. Its a matter of opinion and who is used to what, but both can perform just fine.

5 years I had my G510 and no matter what there is no need to upgrade. In the past 5 years the keyboard I have still are the same that the new keyboard has today. I Seen allot of new gaming Keyboards come out and it doesn't have the tech that mine has

It depends on what use you'll make of them. Writers and rhythm games' players will probably make the most out of the improved feedback and lifespan, but as for normal users, including most gamers, I don't think it makes a difference. The noise they make is satisfying as hell, I'll give you that, but unless you really like it that's not nearly enough to justify the price tag.
Still, it's a fact that mechanical keyboards are tested to endure about x10 the keystrokes of a standard keyboard (50 million VS ~5 million), so they will last longer. We don't know how much the manufacture process has changed through the years, but old mechanical keyboards can last even longer than 20 years. It's an investment, and an expensive one at that, but if you treat your keyboard well it can be a one-time purchase.

I like mechanical keyboards more. I can type faster and they feel more natural to the fingers at least it really feels like you're pressing something with your fingers since there's relatively more resistance compared to the ordinary keyboard. I don't like regular keyboards for gaming. I don't know it just feels so ordinary.

I've never used a mechanical keyboard, I'm using the generic keyboard and mouse that came with my PC set. I never upgraded my PC setup and still use them for gaming. I don't think changing keyboards would affect my gaming experience, I rather spend my money buying new games.

I agree with you. A lot of people prefer mechanical keyboards because of the clicks that they give. I am also one of those people. I love hearing the clicking of the keyboard.

Ah, you could buy a simple keyboard for 5$ and it could serve you for 5 years as well. So 5$ every 5 years? It does not really hurt anyone's pocket.

I have the keyboard and mouse from Logitech. I prefer the old mechanical classic models from logitech. As they tend to stand for longer day than the other new USB based models. Though you'd have to search for them on AliExpress as there are not much numbers in production. I'd recommend these for the gaming and the development.

If you don't wear out your keyboard too much, sure. I'm having a hard time imagining most cheap keyboards to last longer than 3 years, honestly, because accidents happen and a lot of things could go wrong before it stops working. The letter stickers wear out, crumbs accumulate below the keys, water can get spilled, some buttons might break because of a rage-inducted violent stroke. Mechanical keyboards' buttons can be replaced singularly, so that's something to keep in mind.
However, most people will treat their keyboard better than this, so yeah, buying a standard keyboard once every 4-5 years is feasible.

Most mechanical keyboard that are built today are tough and definitely will outlast a generic keyboard. The keys are also replaceable for repair and customization. There are options for keyboards for people that prefer "silent", loud(blue) or in the middle(red). I would totally recommend it to people who have not yet tried one. If budget conscious, there are cheaper mechanical keyboards but some of them have questionable quality but there are definitely cheap quality mechanical keyboards on the market.

I spent the longest time only using a generic keyboard from my laptop and frankly, I got used to it and didn't feel the need to upgrade. Once I started using a mechanical keyboard my whole perspective changed, having that touch response when you type is extremely satisfying. I still don't spend a lot of money on keyboards but I always pick up mechanical ones.

I sure prefer to spend my money on mechanical keyboards than on generic keyboards. The same goes for the mice. I always bought generic mice, but once I bought a good mouse and I never had any problems.

I am currently using a mechanical keyboard. Once you experience the usage of a mechanical keyboard, I'm sure you will not revert to the generic membrane keyboards. I like the feel and response of the mechanical keyboard. However, you need to check out the type of switches suitable for you.

It's just generic keyboards for me, I tend to put my money on the mouse and games instead. But I wouldn't mind having a mechanical keyboard, my friend has one and it felt amazing using them, very comfortable. I wouldn't buy it unless I had a lot fo extra money though, I get what I need using the generic keyboard anyways so I don't think I'll ever need a mechanical one unless it gives me special powers lmao.
Same. If I'm gonna spend money on either the mouse or keyboard, I'll prefer the mouse since it has a lot of variety when it comes to quality of both the performance and the hardware itself. For keyboards, all I care about are the spacing of the buttons. Too narrow and I would press the wrong ones and I'll have to take longer to type. Some keyboards also have additional buttons like the power button (seriously, who adds that to the keyboard) which would make or break the keyboard and would make it unusable.

Im using a g800V x7 and im not planning on upgrading or changing this. I have been using this for 5yrs already and havent receive any error or anything. The programmable is very much useful for me specially for gaming. I can go Away From Keyboard while my keyboard is actually playing for me. Slash/Skill Loot Change Target Loot Slash/Skill - Endless loop. I even bring this keyboard wherever I go even im using my laptop I always use this one, I even bring this antartica cruises :). This keyboard is very simple design and has no backlit lights but I still love this one.

Definitely the mechanical keyboard. I seem to make way more typos with a generic keyboard that has flat keys. The ridges of raised keys sort of play into my touch typing. Or maybe it's because I grew up with the mechanical keyboard like most 90s kids, I'm not sure.

I've been on the generic side of the argument for quite a while untill I did a bit of research and asking around. The main reason people tend to go for mechanical over generic keyboards is precision - practically the same reason you'd choose an optical mouse over a lazer one. While you can play on a generic keyboard, you won't get as accurate of a result as you would on a mechanical one. Take rythm games for instance: you could reduce your timing discrepancy quite a bit by using a keyboard with a more accurate and normed mechanism.
The reason mechanical keyboards have this key advantage is because the moment they transmit information to your computer is the moment they give you feedback. When using a generic keyboard, you're basically just pressing a button with a lid on it, making the exact moment your key triggers vary each time, unless you use the exact same motion to press the key.
There's also the fact that mechanical keyboards offer customizability to produce a result that you won't even have to test to be sure its quality; If you order a keyboard with brown switches, you know that you'll get an experience consistent with other keyboards using the same switches. This also means you won't have to spend copious amounts of money to get a quality experience. If you know what switch you want, it'll be what you get, while with generic ones you may get a huge disappointment.

For competitive gaming a mechanical keyboard is almost neccessary in my opinion.

I feel mechanical keyboards are also great as they offer customizations. I like to get my own set of special keycaps to use as it feels much better than those on generic keyboards.
