Is there a genre that you miss

Ten years ago, on my computer, I used to play a lot of Adventure games and flight simulators. There's not many of them left and those that remain aren't as good. I'd play Myst or Riven for hours, trying to solve the puzzles. Do you miss a genre?

This genre still exists in a way. The only types of games I can find that are similar to these are casual games, but they lack the difficulty and depth that I like. Most of them can be finished within a hour and like you mentioned, you could spend longer than that on one puzzle in Myst. So yeah, I do miss it, or what it use to be.

I have to agree that I miss Flight Simulators as well. I know that X-Plane 11 recently came out but I've never really been a fan of the X-Plane games. I've always been a Microsoft Flight Simulator X guy. I got pretty excited when I found out that Dovetail Games took over and would be releasing it on Steam. I thought we would finally get some updates and performance optimization, but it turned out to just be a cash grab for them. All we got was a bunch of DLC planes and map packs. Disappointing to say the least.

Microsoft, give us a Flight Simulator 2017!

I guess in terms of the style, I miss games like Ratchet and Clank, Daxter (That Jak and Daxter series with the squirrel looking creature and the people with huge ears) and Crash Bandicoot. Essentially any of those third person adventure type games with a nice story, cute little graphics and wonderful characters from other worlds. They were such magical games and they were vastly different to the generic rehashed stuff we get today. If they could bring back that type of game, I'd be a very happy person.

I could just imagine the hype the games would get, I mean, its not like nobody would buy them. Crash Bandicoot and Ratchet & Clank are cult classics and the nostalgia they would bring if redone correctly would be wonderful.

I think the genre that I miss, is not actually a genre, but just the style of a game. Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2-3 had this vibe with the camera angles that make the game even scarier. It has a different take on third person games compared to the ones released today. It's like you're viewing the game from different camera angles and you'll never know when creatures would pop up because sometimes there are blind spots that you just can't look at until you get closer.

I think the old DOOM style games are harder to come. That was partial adventure and the FPS. Also there were some of the games which were like horror yet not much predictable on the gaming side. Old games had their share of issues to so not much I miss from the past. As with time things can surely change just like the graphics and gameplay changed.

You and me both, friend, you and me both. I really had my hopes up with Mighty No.9, but my dreams have crashed and burned after its release.
I'm not sure what I miss the most about that kind of platform games, though. I think it's the minimalistic gameplay and the difficulty, it was all about timing and precision, with no way around it. I also loved how creative you could get with weapons, so that must be it.

Mh, some time ago I would have said metroidvania games, but Axiom Verge, the upcoming Bloodstained and, well, Metroid have satisfied my appetite. A lot of genres have been revived by indie games, even point and click adventure games (see Deponia).

Can't really think of anything specific since most games today has some sort of style or genre from the past, but with much better improvements and sometimes even a lot harder than before. You get genres these days but with added twists and turns since most players have already played most genres and have some sort of expectation or they can guess where the game is going. Throwing in a twist here and there would make a much more fresh gaming experience in my opinion.

Platform games. There are still a few out there, and recently both the Crash Bandicoot remaster and Yokaa Laylee got some following. But it's not that much popular like in the old days... I know it's a genre too simple for today standards, but they were so simple and immediate. Now if I want to play a good platform I have to relie on indie games, and while there are some extremely good games out there they are that common anyway...

I loved to play the old flight simulator, they make you think that you really was in a plane. Also I would like to play the game like harry potter 1 and 2, they had a lot of adventure and a great story from the books, I love those games.

There is one genre that I really miss playing on and its survival. Survival mode is the best and exciting game for me and because of work I rarely playing it on my computer. I remember playing Counter Strike it's like heaven floating in the clouds every time our team won in a deathmatch. I really miss that feeling.

I miss those point and click adventures. Sure it was simple stuff but back then the technology wouldn't allow for better gameplay or graphics and the developers would focus on story and on easter eggs. So funny.
