Yeah, I find that after a while the whole survival aspect of Minecraft can get a bit dull. To solve this, I usually either play with friends or try out mods. Modding Minecraft is a ton of fun and the best part about it is that there are mods for all different tastes. You can get new content mods that extend the game beyond mining for diamonds, or you could go silly and get some fun and light hearted mod. There's options out there for everyone.

What I like to do is semi role play and pretend that I am a adventure scouting the land for products to use to build a new development that I am working on. I like to pretend that I am developing a major city in a western theme and I like to build small cities and make town halls, banks, apartments, storage areas etc. It helps keep things fresh and interesting when I am always building and exploring.

I just don't play Minecraft for long periods of time, then nostalgia strikes, I noticed that my previous files were deleted, and then I start mining, constructing my home and farm from scratch. I like to do this particularly in winter when the weather is cold, and I stay comfortable while listening to the rain or snow :D

The first thing I do when I begin to lose interest is I start playing mod packs. Something like skyfactory etc. is amazing as it just adds so much content to your game, that it almost feels like playing Minecraft for the first time again. Be warned, however, you will definitely need to read some mod wiki pages, or watch some videos if you have no experience with any of the mods involved. Some of them are super complex, like computercraft which actually uses the programming language LUA and allows you to make your own programs, in Minecraft. Once you get the hang of it, you will waste a lot of time optimizing your base. Have fun!

Definitely get in to modded MC. I'd suggest one of the Feed the Beast modpacks (FTB). Theres been people on those servers for years that still have things to progress to, and it isn't grind-y at all.
Besides, being online makes it much more fun and involved.
Let me know if you want some suggestions or server IPs!

FTB is definitely a good way to go if you want really cool gameplay. I also enjoy Tekkit (correct my spelling) pack as well

To me, Minecraft gets stale after a while.

What do you hardcore Minecrafters do to keep it interesting?
I strip mine at Lvl 10 - 12 under my house during the night. I find diamonds easier that way ^-^ also make an underground mine system or garden. I'm honestly scared to die when i play hardcore XDD

I just hate having something you work hard for being wiped out in one go. Very disappointing to see.

I like adding mods to my games using the technic launcher, as I tend to just loose intrest as well into normal MC.... However I do have a drive some years for playing Faction servers with custom plugins.
