Yes true, as long as they dont introduce unnecessary story plots just to extend the gameplay for extention sake. But if it is fun and engaging all along, you keep players happy.
I don't mind story plots. What I hate is when the game literally just makes the game longer by creating save point starvation, fetch quests here and there, radiant quests that don't mean anything to the main story but you have to do it anyway, timed quests where you fail to go to the next one if you don't do it fast enough, or just repetition in general. Games do that sometimes since they have a shortage in the main story, so they'll do anything to make the game longer.

But many of the longer story mode games, repeat their stories even at different level. They probably will change the scene and the environment but it will still be the same story, the same method. Even some probably will not change the characters in this levels, maybe just the main character will change. That's the reason I will always settle for short story mode, so I will not be bored

Yeah totally true, it can really get annoying, i think if you don't have a unique and interesting story to tell, what then are you making the game in the first. Sincerely when i come across such games, i just ditch it forever never to be played again.

Yeah, lame and lazy tactic, yet they still want to make all the money from such games, selling to you just about anything. i don have a problem about paying for upgrades but come on it should be worth the buy in the first place.

Those bonuses they give you to make the game easier should be included in the game itself. It should be called the easy mode of the game. They're now making money off giving the player a hand in the game, even if it makes it insanely easier. People buy them too since most casuals really don't want to git gud at the game and would rather pay and then brag to people they finished the game themselves. Pathetic.

I prefer long and interesting storylines, otherwise, long storylines with dull plots would just feel boring and tedious (like most modern Asian MMOs). If both short and long storylines are of great quality, then I would prefer the longer one as I want to be as immersed in a game as much as possible. I want to feel their pain, their struggles, and their victories. Short ones feel like a cliffhanger for me most of the time.

Why would anybody want shorter stories? Doesn't that mean that you'd finish the game faster? If I am paying money for the game I want to be able to play it for as long as possible. Therefore, 100% I prefer the longer stories. The longer the better. Some of my favorite games have really, really long stories. I just feel like a story needs its time to be able to unravel and develop. If it's too short, it can quite often feel very rushed.
Might depend on how one's definition of "short" is. Some games tend to be considered short if the entire gameplay is around 24 hours, yet those games can be really good. I guess in a way, there should be a good balance for it. If it's an open world game, I'd like a longer story as I want to see what the entire world has to offer. If it's a game like Outlast, I'd say maybe somewhere in the middle so that the game won't feel too repetitive and would have a lot of climaxes.

Yeah not cool at all, its like saying if you dont pay, you are definately not finishing this game. I have abandoned a number of games because addon cost got too expensive over time. At least be fair in your charges.

Same for me. When there's a sale on Steam (only time I buy my games) and I see a game I might like, I check the page for comments. If the game itself has tons of DLCs where you have to pay over a dollar per alternate costume, extra weapon, etc; and they rack up to more than what the base game is worth, then I'm not gonna support your game. Screw that, even if the DLCs are all skins and music and won't affect the main game experience, I hate supporting companies that milk the money out of their customers.

I am ok with a long story, but the problem is most newer games are a short story that takes forever to finish. Because you're stuck behind some crappy game mechanic that is designed to make your life miserable by killing you over and over. Some how developers think this makes the game a lot more fun. And I always say to myself "I am never going to buy anymore of their crappy games". But I end up buying their new games anyway LOL.

A good story mode. Lame answer I know, but I much rather prefer a game with a constant good story, than a game with a boring and long story that is not too interesting. Take Portal and Portal 2 for example (the second expecially): both are pretty short, but the story is pretty nice.

I prefer longer story mode game, you continue playing without thinking on how the game will end. Mission to missions

Game story has become an art. These days, games can offer meaningful and beautiful stories almost in the same way movies or novels can. I don't have a preference towards long or short stories in a game, I just want a good story. I don't mind playing for only 3 or 4 hours if the story is incredible. Likewise for some 40+ hour games like Dragon Age or Witcher.

I wouldn't mind longer story modes as long as they switch things up time to time within the length of the mode and incorporate new ideas into the mix as well. It would be a very boring long mode if things were repetitive.

I feel like the length of the story is important but, like how other people have been saying, I hate it when the story feels too drawn out as well. Especially since it'll take longer to play then, and I feel like I have a tendency to forget plot points the longer that I spend on a game. I feel like there are ways for longer story lines to work in a game, though. If it's pretty episodic and fed to me in pieces, I feel like it's easier to remember and engage with it.

Long story mode, of course. If the story is shorter than it's possible that I lose my interest quickly so what's the point.

I'm going to say "appropriate length" story modes. I don't want developers to shoe-horn in more content just to meet some arbitrary quota. Likewise, I don't want a story that has a good reason to be extra long to have to cut out all the good stuff just because it's gone over said arbitrary line. I'd prefer the focus be on quality story telling that is crafted by people who are skilled in the art rather than a board-meeting, Hollywood style "script"-by-numbers.

I prefer long story modes with certain storyline arcs. I think the length actually depends on the content. For long story modes, the storyline needs to be unpredictable and interesting to keep me invested in the game.

Hi, I prefer shorter campaigns because they allow me to quickly move on to other new games. I want to experience as many different games as possible and move on without feeling like I wasted my time by not finishing it.

I prefer stories with longer games with longer story modes, the shorter ones become boring easily and it makes me feel like I was ripped off you know I like it when a game makes sense like am watching a movie or a reality show which is as realistic as it can get that's jut the thrill of getting a perfect gaming experience this is why I love soccer its unending you keep winning trophies and meeting new teams, buying new players retiring the old ones.
