I'm starting to wonder if Mario is Nintendo's only money maker nowadays. Like I know they have other characters they can base games around. Though, whenever I think about Nintendo it is only about Mario. It seems to me that they put so much behind Mario. That it seems like any other franchise from there doesn't even matter that much. I can't tell you the amount of people I know that only bought a Nintendo Wii/U just to play smash bros. Do you guys think Mario is Nintendo's only real money maker?

Nintendo will probably always be able to bank on the Zelda, Pokemon, and Metroid franchises, as well as the Mario games. But I do agree that there's a bit of over saturation in Nintendo's business model. Their racing game is Mario Kart. Their fighting game is heavily Mario influenced. When they make a tennis, golf or soccer game it's always Mario. There is the 2.5D New Super Mario Borthers wing of the franchise as well as the flagship 3D wing of the franchise, populated by the likes of Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy. There's an endless string of Mario Party games. Technically even the Yoshi franchise is a Mario game, having barely distinguished itself from the titles which spawned it. He's everywhere! I like Mario, a lot actually. I grew up with his games and they held a place in my 80's-kid heart that was second only to Ninja Turtles. But Nintendo sorely needs to work on expanding their brand. The Wii U especially suffered from Mario overload in a way no other Nintendo console has.

While I don't think Mario is there only money maker. He is heavily favored among most franchises in Nintendo's roster. My question is that a bad thing? I don't think so. In the days where people care more about the power of the hardware. Then the games themselves It is nice to see people wanting a character more then a console. Now this does come back to bite Nintendo cause having such an Iconic cast of characters and a legend such as Mario. Means you have pour all your resources In to those games. Cause that might be the crucial factor on whether you sell consoles or not. What's important for Nintendo to understand is we don't A bunch of Mario Games, But a good Mario experience. With the new Mario Odyssey coming out and Zelda Breath of the wild already released. I think they get that. With the switch I think Nintendo can finally pull back the does a bit and show us there colorful roster. Also with games like Splatoon after years of wanting new I.Ps from the company. We might finally see a new generation of character we can enjoy.

Nintendo being the first of its kind in the early times, it still rules the market and I too feel the same about the Mario games. I think equal importance to be given to other games too. I played Smash Bros in Nintendo and it was awesome and most of my friends bought Nintendo and Wii just for Mario.

Mario and Pokemon were the two biggest moneymakers from Nintendo, so big their revenues can be compared to some big companies in the gaming industry, each time a new title was introduced, it made banks, literal banks, now, with the launch of Switch and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Legend of Zelda is slowly catching up, before it was mainly a game well known enough to challenge Mario and Pokemon in Japan but paled in comparison to the other two's international fame, but now it's slowly and steadily crawling up on the ladder.
