So here is someone explaining how mass effect's ftl drive works. And i found it entertaining.

Now here is my thought on how the ftl drive could actually work.
(I recommend you watch the video to understand what i am talk about)
Basically the FTL drive goes so fast it actually takes you back in time due ot time dialation, but here is how my thinking takes that into account and makes it work better.

What if the ftl doesnt work at constantly traveling the same speed, but instead flipflops between its ftl and light travel in order to counteract traveling back in time, and theoretically arriving at the designated location within the time they were experiencing, plus or minus a few minutes/hours/days. I am probably overthinking this but wouldnt the force that their ftl drive creates, effectively ripple through the universe as they are travelling? They could arrive ahead of a marked location were the aftershock would intercept them, and ride it ahead, gaining their speed back, and then slowing down at another location, and repeating this until they reached their destination, as stated above, either instantaneously, or within a few seconds/minutes/hours/days.
