The path Microsoft has taken with the Xbox One has lead their customers down a confusing road. From reversing their initial DRM policy to removing the necessity of the Kinect sensor bar, Microsoft's message has not been clear regarding the Xbox One.

The latter of the mentioned reversals has lead to a bigger question - will Microsoft ever offer a Kinectless based Xbox One with the benefit of a reduced cost to the consumer. Recently, Phil Harris has finally responded to the question everyone has asked since the initial removal of the Kinect requirement:

“Xbox One is Kinect. They are not separate systems.”

So there you have it - those hoping for a cheaper Xbox One may have to wait till the price of the hardware naturally falls in price and not from the removal of equipment. Microsoft is clear about their initial vision, even if their current policys don't fully support that.
