This reminds me of Stealth's first attempt at Gimp haha. I have never used Gimp but I would've thought it would be harder to use than Photoshop?

Yes and so it should be. GIMP is rubbish.

I mean, personally what you made is dark gray text on a grey background and then soft erazed some of the text and/or a tiny gradient effect.

1/10 would not bang.
