Hello, my fellow rebels!
We have been working hard on updating the forums as much as we can to keep members interested in coming back, as well as offering new features!
In the month of August, you will see a bunch of HUGE new updates to the site one after the other. We have so many cool new features that we have been working on and are extremely excited to finally be releasing them all soon!
To start, here are some smaller things to keep you guys at bay for now!
1,500+ New Smilies!
While @Gray has been uploading some smilies to the site, I figured I would go ahead and revamp the entire smilies packs that we currently have! While some packs have been removed, we have installed the EmojiOne pack to our forums to offer a new updated look for our users. First time loading these smilies may take a few seconds due to the large size of the pack. We will also soon be transferring over to a new dedicated server that will help speed up the site!
Profile Covers
In an attempt to make user profiles a little more unique to the users, we now allow users to upload a profile cover to their profile. We have also disabled the top banner ad and the announcement slider on member profiles to make the user experience better while browsing member profiles. The profile covers have been in effect for about a month, but have been worked on here and there before we made any announcement. As now we have completely installed a new cover addon, and fixed up the design to our liking, we are safe to say it is now finished! There are some small tweaks we would like to fix, such as the gamer cards overlapping banners. However, everything is functioning properly!
Unanswered threads
In an attempt for me to try to get a more discussion on the forums, I have installed an "unanswered threads" system that allows us to finally be able to see threads that have zero replies. You can check them out by clicking the "Unanswered Threads" link in the sub-navigation of the forums!
Double Post Merge
As double posting is considered spam and is literally the first rule we have on the site, we have installed a "Double Post Merge" addon that will prevent people from double posting in the future. Any posts you make that is considered to be a "Double Post" will be merged with your previous post automatically.
We hope that this reduces the spam on our forums, as well as reducing the workload for our moderators!
New Advertisement System
In an effort to be as transparent as possible, I am letting our users know that we have installed a new advertisement system. As the founding owner of Game Rebels, I pay out of pocket the majority of the costs of the site, so there is no profit margin. As costs continuously increase, I need to find ways to also increase the revenue the site makes in order to provide the features that our users love so much.
It is important to note that I truly do understand that advertisements can be annoying at times. However, Game Rebels strongly believes in the best user experience as possible when it comes to our players. Which is why, the 728x90 advertisement banners don't show up on the homepage, or member profile pages. Also hence, the reason why we set strict rules with our advertisers that follow the acceptable ads format. We make a good effort to only serve our users non-intrusive and non-invasive advertising. With that said, Game Rebels needs advertisement revenue in order to continue providing the content and games that we give out to fellow rebels like you! If you are not interested in seeing advertisements on the site, however, you still wish to help contribute, you are able to purchase premium that removes advertisements from your account.
This new advertisement system is going to allow us to directly sell to advertisers our ad space while completely automating the entire process. This system allows advertisers to get detailed statistics about their campaign in regards to how many impressions their ads are getting, how many clicks, what pages the clicks are coming from and so on.
It is also important to note that Game Rebels has a strict User Privacy Policy and we assure you that none of your personal info is being shared without your consent. We installed this new system to be able to properly manage the ads that show on our site, and block ads that won't be relevant to any gamer.
