One of the most successful genres on consoles is the Horror Game franchise. This genre has risen to fame during the PlayStation 1 days with Resident Evil leading the pack. Though it featured tedious controls and laughable voice overs, it was still embraced by the gaming community because of the great scares and thrilling zombie battles.
It was then followed by different titles like Silent Hill. It improved upon the Resident Evil formula in terms of voice overs, story telling and moody environments. Though the series is not as action packed as the RE games, it is a lot more scary.
Fatal Frame is also a great game franchise that has enjoyed a series of sequels on consoles. It featured beautiful girls being haunted by ghosts. And what do they equip them with? A camera. The series captures the entire look and feel of Japanese horror movies.
