The first platform I owned was the Playstation 1. I still have very fond memories of Crash Bandicoot as one of the first games I played and loved. It was so much fun navigating through the maps and learning from previous failures. Also, who could forget Super Smash Bros on the Gamecube. I remember loving the competitive PvP style of gameplay with my friends.

Well, it wasn't just one - 'cause it had thousands upon thousands of games! You see, I'm an old gamer, and my first platform was the c64.

Some games I loved - and the reasons for each one:

CREATURES: I still remember it stands for "Clyde Radcliffe Exterminates All The Unfriendly Repulsive Earth-ridden Slime", and it was one of the games that really pushed the c64 in the graphics and audio department. Plus, it had awesome black humor with lots's of cartoony blood way before Happy Tree Friends became a fad.

Last Ninja: Oh, man, where do I begin... Awesome arcade-adventure action combining hand to hand combat with exploration, something like a pre-Tomb Raider for us prehistoric gamers of the past. With Ninjas! What could be better?

Turrican: There's still no equivalent to the mix of action, exploration and shooting Turrican and its even better sequel offered. Like CREATURES, Turrican really "pushed" the c64, displaying stuff we up to then didn't think was possible in combination with such smooth scrolling. Yet, here it was.

Maniac Mansion: The granddaddy of graphics adventures introduced us to a a new kind of gaming: up to then, to play an "adventure game" you had to input commands. And the graphics usually didn't move but were static images. Years after Maniac Mansion, the definition of "adventure game" was replaced by what it showed us. The classic "adventures" first became "text adventures", after that, and after some more time - and up to now - the name was changed again to "interactive novels" to better explain what they are about.

Those are the four that first came to mind.

Oh man, on the one I actually owned myself it was my Sonic game. I was 4 at the time so I don't know which one it was. all I know is that it was Sonic. I played it a whole bunch before I lost it during a trip to Jamaica one Christmas. Grandma kept loaning out gameboys to the kids in the neighborhood while we were asleep. One of the first games I remember loving though was Mario Kart 64. It was hilarious using the blue shell since I was in last so much.

Ducklord, that sounds like an incredible variety of games! Unfortunately I haven't played any of them, but you must have some great memories from all those games. I think the c64 was before my time. Do you still miss those times, or has the evolution of gaming over the years taken your interest much more?

Sonic was a great game Darius, it's a shame you lost it. I still remember it as one of the funnest arcade style games. This is a little off topic, but did you know there's proteins in biology named 'Sonic Hedgehog'. Some scientists in the world must have also been big fans of Sonic too! Also, who could not like MarioKart. It still remains one of my favorite racing games. Some of the most hilarious moments in that game were during games with friends where in an instant someone would go from first to last, and the rage quit moments after leading for the entire race to be over taken at the finish line were priceless. Great answer with Mario Kart!

@Webene Well, I don't really think about it. Games of that era were games of that era, and gaming has changed since then. I feel strange and a bit of nostalgia when I see (mostly indie) new games returning to the aesthetics and gameplay of the "then" times, like, dunno, Broforce, VVVVV, or of the later 16bit era, like Spelunky. Would I trade my Mass Effect for my International Karate+? Nope. I would sacrifice neither, but could also not choose "what's the better of the two", since I had fun with both and they were both great experiences. With a difference of about 20 years between them.

I'll try to explain the feeling in another, more manly-man way: think that you've found an issue of Playboy. You look at it, you open it and start peering at those beautiful girls. Man, oh man, that redhead, you could marry that one. You close the mag and look at the cover more closely: "1973"... :p

"What was good then" doesn't mean that the same thing wouldn't be good now. But things changed and simply "got different" in many ways as the years passed. A photo of a beautiful young girl from 1973 depicts a beautiful young girl today as well. But if you search for the girl, herself, you may find out she's your aunt today :-D

Dunno if you "get it" the way I'm trying to explain it. We live an awesome era for gaming. It would be nice if we could have our Mass Effects 20 years ago, but we couldn't, because we didn't have the tech, the whole "game design mindset" wasn't at a level that could have produced a Mass Effect, it simply couldn't be. Today we CAN have both our Mass Effects and our Ms. Pac-Mans, and its nice when I see some devs going the second way, giving priority to gameplay, tough difficulty, fun for fun's sake, and not to glossy graphics. But I ALSO want my glossy graphics, too, and when I trake a break from re-playing Rick Dangerous I like my Lara Croft with hair shaders :-D

Getting a Super Nintendo with Final Fantasy VI for my birthday really changed my whole life! With its awesome story and gameplay, it turned me into an RPG lover from day 1. To this day I still think it is the best game ever! Asides from that, the SNES really had a stellar lineup of games, with Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger, and Super Metroid, just to name a few!

First platform I owned was a PS1. Spyro was the game with a close second of Twisted Metal.

This depends on whether we're talking about "the first platform I owned for myself" or "the first platform I owned in my family in general."

The first console I bought for myself was the Wii, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl was the primary reason I bought one. Tripping and other incredibly annoying mechanics and balance aside, I found Brawl to be pretty fun, though not as much anymore - though then, I also no longer own either my Wii or the game.

As for the NES, which my family had... this one's tough. I'd say it was the Mario Bros. series that had the most influence on me; I can't remember what my favorite game on that was, if I even had an explicit favorite. I just remember it was fun being able to watch and occasionally play these cool games (hey, I was a 5-year-old; "cool games" is pretty descriptive at that age!).

I think the first ever platform I have ever owned was Gameboy. At that time, we, me and my brother, bought a lot of games to exchange and play. We end up have a LOT of collections to choose and to play. I don't really remember my favorite game, but I remember playing a pokemon and a naruto game and enjoying it a lot.

The nostalgic Nintendo 64. Growing up I loved that thing. I also had a PlayStation 2, which I used more. My favorite (and only) game on the N64 was Mario Kart 64. I would often play it with my sister and my mother. On the PS2 I played Harry Potter, Spider-Man, and a few others.

Pokemon Yellow for the GBA. That game blew my mind, as you actually become a Pokemon trainer and go the same route Ash took in the first Season of Pokemon in the TV show. That was amazingly well done, and it made kids dream of being Pokemon master through the years. They made countless Pokemon games since then, but Pokemon Yellow will still have a special place in my memories.

I think I was on one of those old SEGA game consoles. And Sonic and Mario were on that game. And it was very addictive to be using those games. I think consoles were good in that time because games were easy and straight. Though there was some difficulty. You can see that SEGA games were one of the good ones in back in time.

Before I got my first console I used to play on my computer and i really love first person shooter game. The first game I played on my Play Station 2 console was Call of Duty. Call of duty was my first FPS game too. I played it on PC most of the times before I got my console and I still love playing call of duty game series.
