How desperate are you for gaming?

I would say that I am desperate to game in certain periods. At the moment I am not gaming as much as I did a couple of weeks ago for example. At that time I was averaging about 5 to 8 hours a day in my favorite game.

I'm desperate for games to the point where in I don't go to school just play. I even forget to take a bath just to finish the gaming session. I forget my priorities because of games. Not eating in time just to play games is my hobby lol!

I think that, when I was younger, there was a moment that I could have become quite addicted to my gaming. School was always my priority, and then, I discovered girls, then work, and next thing I knew I was pulling a full load in college and working towards a career, so all of my addictions, in this process, had to controlled or dropped altogether.

When I was young I was desperate and I wanted to game all the time. While I wouldn't say that I am over the hill (I am 42) my priorities have totally changed from 20+ years ago. I would much rather do other things in life and keep gaming in check. Yesterday I never even played and when I do play its only about a 1~3hrs a day. And 3hrs a day is really rare. After 3hrs I stop playing until the next day.

There was a time when I could consider myself as a game addict lol but is not the case now. Currently I only get desperate when I am playing a new game I really like and I don't get to master it as fast as I would like to. It is happening right now with Minecraft!

What is your level of desperation for playing your favourite games?

When I get addicted to a particular game I can play it over and over again for hours. All I keep thinking is about the game and my strategy in playing it.

Work, food, sleep and everything else take a back seat and playing the game becomes my biggest desire. In one of those peak periods of addiction I dream about the game as well.

I was the same as you, when I was younger. I remember playing Assassins Creed games 8-10 hours a day. I went from first part to Assassins Creed 3 in just a couple of days, and I completed almost 100% with all the side quests and missions. Nowadays, I don't have as much time as I had when i was younger, but if I had, I would probably go back to my old habits :relaxed:.

I used to be so desperate in gaming! Back in the day, I would skip out of the class specially if there is no teacher, just to go on the nearest gaming cafe and play video games. Lol. I won't say I regret it but I would say that I learned a lot from it. :)

I think I handle this very well as I haven't played in a very long time. Sometimes I wish I had the time and the console to just sit and play for a bit, I haven't felt "desperate" to play, not even when I'm bored or when I want some other distraction.

I think the concept of "desperate" can be quite broad, doesn't it?

So, considering my concept on this, I've never been desperate for any game (nor for Resident Evil which is one of my favorite games in the whole world ).

I'm very desperate for games. I think it's just my addiction that I play so many games. Day can't pass if I don't play some games.

You really seem to be a big addict, haha! So, what types of games do you usually play? :smirk:

I have long gone surpassed the stage of desperation in gaming. Now i am a casual gamer. Play if i have time, and if i can't, its ok as well...
Yeah, I have tons of work currently and I haven't even touched a game at all this week. I start the game, look at the start screen for a few minutes, realize this will take a lot of time and I really need to finish a lot of work, and I close it. It's sad considering when I was growing up, all I wanted to do was play games but my computer couldn't run them. Now that I have a gaming rig, I don't have the time or energy to play games. Cruel irony.

Yeah...we feel bad when we are unable to fetch time for playing a game we are obsessed with. I feel very irritated at that time and will play the game at any cost. It is usually my sleeping time that goes in playing games.
Yes I always try to find some time to play the games. I usually stop doing other tasks and concentrate on the game only. This can be really bad at times. I also try to play before bedtime and on many occasions I went to sleep quite late at night.

Gaming desperation can be lethal at times. Once I missed a big career opportunity only because I did not complete my assignment on time. But obviously it was my favorite game that ate up all of my time. Although I regretted this later, but still all is fair in game and love... LOL

LOL! Is this really for real? :D But I admit it happened to me too. But not to the point that I totally missed the opportunity or something. I guess I got lucky fortunately I was forgiven for my tardiness. :p The truth is I was finishing up a game which can't be paused or if I leave, I'd surely have penalties. Hehehe. :D

Yeah...this is a true incident which happened a year back. Since then I always keep a balance between my work and gaming.Gaming is for our leisure and cannot fetch us a living. We need to work so as to earn money and survive in this world. A proper balance between the two needs to be made. Though maintaining this balance is a daunting and tricky task but a strong will power and proper planning can make things work out very easily.

The hard fact is that I cannot enjoy my game to the fullest if I have any pending work load. As water appears sweet only to a thirsty mouth so is the case with gaming. We can relax and enjoy our gaming time to the fullest only after we have worked to the best of our abilities. A lesson learned 6 months back was a lesson for life.

This hasn't happen to me in a long time now! I don't mean to offend you but the way you described it, it seems a bit of a problem... Of course to each one its own but I guess if you are that desperate to play to the point you can't do anything else. Maybe you should rethink how much time you are investing on playing games...

I love playing games, but it's not like I am that desperate, usually I keep my playing in a controllable manner, then again every once in a while there will be a game that break through my defense and completely take control over me for some time, during that time I can't think of anything other than beating it in the best way possible, which bring me to several disasters, like there were that one time I just straight up ditched my final test, I'm lucky that I was an award-winning student so I got to take the test again, or else I wouldn't be able to graduate.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I agree that there was a time when my gaming addiction took over my thinking and reasoning ability. I suffered from loneliness, adopted an anti-social attitude and had troubles in focussing on my work. My body became lethargic and working stamina considerably decreased.

And then, I faced this financial loss. This was a lesson big enough to make me realize my mistake. Since then I always try to maintain a balance between my work and gaming time. I remain involved in other outdoor activities as well. This helps me to keep my mind diverted from the console. My quality of life has improved a lot.

I will tell you truth, I play games and I play for recreational purpose, which means I play only when I want to relax and have spare time. Therefore, you will never see me playing games during working hours or late night. I am not desperate for a game. In fact I can go online for weeks and months without playing a game.

This is what I call controlled gaming. Gaming should always be for fun and recreation. It does not take long to become addicted to games. Gaming addiction is very lethal and it takes over our ability to think wisely. It hampers both personal as well as professional life. Games are a mode of entertainment and should be allowed to access only a limited period of our life. There are many other equally interesting things to do.

I don't really... have much of a level of desperation for any particular or favorite games. I tend to have more of a general desperation for "I want to do something fun" after doing a lot of work, but I don't find myself so heavily addicted to the extent that I get outright cravings for gaming most of the time (but then, I've had to ignore what cravings I did get enough, so maybe I just don't notice them anymore?)

Personally, I think mine is strong and it's seriously getting out of hands. I practically play in every moment and situation that I found myself. I play while using the rest room, being in the commercial vehicles, in the church, banks, at work place, even while walking on the road, carrying my plate of food.

I really know the this is a very bad behavior but the problem is stopping it, and it's proved to be a very difficult task for me to drop it that easily. On rating my addiction to gaming, I would say 95% out of 100%.
