What do you prefer in a game's story mode? Long or short?

I prefer longer story modes. In my opinion, the more the is to complete, the better. Once I complete the story mode, the game becomes boring for me, so I always want to spend a long time in story mode.

Long story lines,
Especially in games like Skyrim and Fallout.

Same here I prefer long story modes, the shorter the story is the quicker I lose interest

I also like long story modes so I have even more missions to play and complete.

Depends. If it's like a game like CoD, those are fine. But something like a free-roam game like fable I would want much longer story modes.

Longer story modes are great for me, I really dig a well story and character development, I love the opportunity of larger world building in those games, it gives the opportunity to create a larger lore and possibillities of sequels.

Why would anybody want shorter stories? Doesn't that mean that you'd finish the game faster? If I am paying money for the game I want to be able to play it for as long as possible. Therefore, 100% I prefer the longer stories. The longer the better. Some of my favorite games have really, really long stories. I just feel like a story needs its time to be able to unravel and develop. If it's too short, it can quite often feel very rushed.

Yeah, long story modes allow for better world development and more lore insight. Plus, it's easier to grow attached to the characters and this makes events related to them more impactful (including deaths, of course). It's easier to get engaged with long stories.
On the other hand, though, it's also easier to lose interest in the long run. Long stories are fine as long as there's more effort put into them. Unfortunately, not all games manage to pull that off.

Longer or short? Oh I will go for shorter story mode. Of course this will give me chance to complete the story faster and even complete it at all.
I have started lot of games but couldn't finish them because they are longer and even challenging so they get boring. Either a game has short story of long story, if I must play it I must complete it and the moment I complete it, it will get boring.

Longer, but at the same time the story line has to keep me engaged to the game and not get boring over time because I will basically forget about the game and start playing something else which is more interesting to me

I prefer longer story lines any day of the week. I generally take my time playing games as it is, but I like to have plenty of things to do, explore, and experience when I play. After all, I want to feel like I got my money's worth out of the game. Not to mention having more to do in game like the Elder Scrolls, Fallout and GTA series do increases the "replayability" of the game.

I love longer story modes. Basically, because I enjoy getting a lot of content for the money I spent. I like games like Skyrim and Fallout because they really make my money worth it. There is nothing that upsets me more than spending 50 bucks on a game that will grant me ten hours of gameplay. I could go to a party and have more fun for that money.

It has to be a long story line. The more complicated, the better for me because i love solving hard missions and feeling good with my achievements. Where as short stories are less entriging and sometime might look like less value for money spent.

Longer modes are better because you can actually feel immersed with the story. But it's also about how long or short a game's story is. Too short and people would complain that they want more. Too long and people would get bored or lose interest if they want to do a replay of the game, since the story will take a while and it's gonna be a daunting task to do all those quests all over again. It really depends on how dedicated the person is on the game. If they are dedicated, it doesn't matter how long they play the story.

Well, I like long stories, but sometimes the stories get so annoying... That is why I like, the long stories have to be good and addictive, and the short stories have to be good and progressive to kill the time.

I usually prefer a long story but I agree that games like FF tend to overdo themselves. Still, i think there's gotta be a balance between story length and replay value. Some people like myself aren't really into replaying stuff unless there is something very cool like a new outfit or a secret cutscene or even an alternate ending.

It can sometimes be daunting to start playing Witcher 3 again. 5 large maps for one huge storyline and 2 DLCs would seem like a bit too much, and you get lazy and lose motivation just thinking about it. But once the adventure begins and you get hooked, those maps would be too small and too few if you get really into it. It's fun that way, and it would really help if you are doing something new in the playthrough, like a different build or change the sequence of your quest finishing.

I prefer longer story modes but with a lot of paths and branches for the story, which will also include different endings. I remember that this element of the game is already present in Skyrim and some of the Fallout games. It would also be interesting if they include additional story or extension to the original one. An example of one interesting story line addition is the Dark Arisen DLC for Dragon's Dogma. Somehow because of the extension or additional quest line, the lore of the game seemingly expanded and it became much more interesting.

I felt like that playing Shadow of mordor. Although the game does get repetitive sometimes the combat sequences and the missions specifically designed to take down the captains make up for it. Replay value is something complicated. There has to be the exact balance between old and new content. Too many elements and you don't have replay value at all. Too many new elements and you're better off making a new game.

Yes true, as long as they dont introduce unnecessary story plots just to extend the gameplay for extention sake. But if it is fun and engaging all along, you keep players happy.
