Team Fortress 3 ever happening?

Probably not. I think Team Fortress 2 is such a successful game/money-maker (despite being free) that Valve wouldn't want to mess with a good thing. How's that saying go? "Don't fix what's not broken"?

Not as it seems. Just like Half-Life 3, it’ll never happen. Team Fortress 2 still seems like a successful game with a solid player base, though with the release of Overwatch and many other hero based games, the player base did decrease since 2015. So if TF2 dies, there won’t be a new TF3 as Valve would understand that the game is dead which they can’t revive. If TF2 is still popular like how it is now, Valve won’t bother making a TF3 as they’re still making money.

Valve is pretty known for not making games that end with 3. Even if they did, Team Fortress 2 is still a fairly healthy game with a decent player base even though its gone downhill lately. If they were to make a third Team Fortress than players that still play 2 would just move to the third game when money still could be made.

Team Fortress 2 still have some life in it. I would say another couple years until it completely bites the dust. As the others have said, Valve sure doesn't like to release games in three's which I highly speculate that there will not be a Team Fortress 3 for a long time. It took them nearly 7 years to develop Team Fortress 2 from Team Fortress Classic so even if they did agree on building a third installment, it will take a long time to say the least. We can wait and see what happens though.

It's been three years since the OP asked, and Valve still can't count to three. Jumping on the nay-wagon, we're likely to not see a TF3 with the hype and active player base of TF2. Especially since it generates a lot of money from the many cosmetics and Mann v Machine, gets recycled through the Steam market, and encourages kill-cam savvy players to get MAWR.

Up to now, we still don't have half life 3 or any tease that we would even ever have one, and that's a game that a lot of fans want. Team Fortress 2 is also constantly getting updates here and there and is very active as of now, I doubt that Valve would even think it's necessary to make a TF3.

I would also add to that that TF2 doesn't really need a sequel. Because it's being constantly updated and modified and added to by Valve on a regular basis, there's really no need to create an entirely new game. As long as Valve is able to continue changing and adjusting TF2, they have no incentive to make an entirely new game.

Left 4 Dead and Half Life have stronger cases for third installments, in my opinion.

Like others have been saying, I also think they won't be making a 3rd one for awhile. There's no need, the current game still has a huge player base and steam makes lots of money off it still I'm sure. TF2 can still be and is updated with new content all the time.

A game I do think they should make is a Portal 3 or a game similar to it like a spin off.

As much as I'd love to see a Portal 3, I almost wonder how they could manage that? I feel like the story ended pretty cleanly with the way it's written up right now. A spin off might work, with a whole new story-line and new characters. . .maybe just before the original Portal game?

I totally agree it'd be hard to come up with a sequel to Portal 2 because of the way it ends. But I love the idea of a prequel there's lots of room to fill a story before the events of Portal 1. Please Steam, listen to us and make another Portal game of some sort! On the bright side there's a ton of additional content on the workshop if there's ever a need to scratch the Portal itch.

Oh yeah totally. Have you ever seen the race courses Gelocity? There's three of them, they should all come up just by searching that. There's also a single player "time trial" track that you can play. . .they're all really fun, although the third one is definitely the best. You can actually spring traps on your opponent if you're behind by using the ping system, it's pretty sweet.

I doubt it, Valve is too focused on Dota 2 and Counter Strike and TF2. There constantly putting out new skins for people to buy. And those games are cash cows. The only way they are going to make a TF3 is if TF2 loses a lot of players and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I don't think TF3 will ever happen because of how TF2 has been run. So many people would be angry if they lost their items. Just like if people lost their knives on CSGO

I have too agree on that also if does happen they will need to transfer the items to the new game
