The next big thing? Or are MMO's dying?

Recently I've been looking around for a new online experience to play, and I haven't found anything that really holds my interest. From my point of view, it seems like the only huge and growing MMO's are either in their later stages (WoW, GW2, FFXIV) or are grindfests (Black Desert online, Warframe, etc.). So, is it just a case of people sticking to one MMO and not trying something new, or are there any new MMO's actually worth playing?

Personally, I think the genre seems a bit over saturated, and newer MMOs are forced to actually innovate instead of taking lots of 'inspiration' from WoW. But in 10 years, I wonder if people will still be playing them.

If a famous gaming company does release a new MMORPG especially if it's derived from their famous games, then I think that would be the next big thing. Although I know The Elder Scrolls online was a thing, it seemed that there were many issues and complaint regarding the game, making it get negative reviews and not much players. I'm hoping anytime soon there would be an MMORPG of the Fallout series, Witcher, or make Monster Hunter World a MMORPG of some sort.

MMO did have a golden age, and it's safe to say they peaked around ten years ago, but the fact that they aren't as advertised as they used to be doesn't necessarily mean they're dead.
They're a peculiarity in gaming. They're much more "silent" than other games, but even if you don't see them mentioned around much, there's a high chance they have a highly active userbase. They're like a closed market, so to speak.

In my opinion it's not that MMO are dying or any thing of kind I think It's business strategy you know for example let's compare that with phones , the iPhone started with 1 and now they are on 8 they keep making it better and making money with it, That's what developers are busy doing because the previous versions were loved by many they take that advantage and make it better, And the better the product is the more money it will bring in,
As for new games Maybe they don't match your criterias but there are lots of MMO games to choose from like Tera, Riders of Icurus in short the list would be endless just try one by one you'llcfind at least one good for you.

I think mmorpgs are on the way out unless developers can find a way to keep people interested without making them a total grindfest. The days of people grinding for hours and hours for weeks and months at a time are over. Real life obligations are overtaking free time of people these days. A lot of people are forced to work 2 jobs just to survive.

Personally, I feel that their era is endingwaning yes. Unfortunately, it's hard to keep things fresh. Creativity is scarce nowadays and the most common thing is people reusing the same concepts over and over again with little differences (Perhaps new graphics). There are still good MMOs out there but those are an exception to the rule. Maybe with the advent of VR things will spice up a bit.

As long as there are 7 billion people and counting living on earth, a million or two will still play mmo or other stupid games for all pete's sake. You can never dictate a person that you should play this or you should play that and expect them to really play it or even try it even if you think it is the best game ever made. The versatility of many games land only on very even or somewhat few gamers that lives in a certain area and I think a game title is only playable once a gamer tells it to his friend and that friend tells it to his other friend and that other friend tells it many of his friends and so on. Games today can't survive just focusing in just a certain group, it should be this one can play this and also this group can also play it. The majority always win remember it.

I feel like every MMORPG out there feels the same and always have the same mechanics. Even the quests are always the same. Just some fetch quests, kill specific monster quests, etc. There was a time when I was very into MMORPG and that's all I play but I got tired of it and opt for MOBA or Battle Royale games now.

The good old "is this genre dying?" topic :D In all honesty, sure, MMO's are dying, but they are dying along with every other game as well. Everything might be dying but very little will surely die. There's still such a large crowd for mmorpgs, while people may quit there's always new people joining. While some of the larger mmorpgs may have less players / sub numbers than what they used to have back in the day, these numbers are still huge and bringing in the companies a lot of money. Too much to think about the game ever closing.

In my opinion, of course in 10 years mmorpgs will still be alive and still have players. If the game never received an update since the day of release then maybe the game would die, but they are always doing things to keep players in love with the game. But sometimes we just grow out of them.
