My father plays Candy Crush saga. He is happy with the game. When he is unable to complete a level, I help him. Candy Crush can be a good game for old people.
card games are also good for old people. I father enjoys playing Solitaire on his mobile hand set.
Mother does not play games.

My dad used to play Mario too. But nowadays I think a newer game is better. My suggestion would be a sports game like FIFA, NBA, or NHL. I suggest these because they only require a few buttons to play and a lot of adults these days love sports. I wouldn't suggest Madden because that is a little more complicated, take longer to teach, and is just harder to play from my experience.:smirk:

I'd say it has to be a game that is interactive and fun to play on multiplayer, while not being too complicated in terms of control. It is much better that you play with your parents since video games not only act as entertainment but also bridge for communication. I was worried back then when I was trying to help my dad play Halo with me on Xbox 360 but he quit after 10 minutes because he find the game hard to play in terms of control so we played NBA 2K13 instead.
Newer NBA 2K games have complex gameplay mechanics though. I played it a bit and got bored with all the button combos just to do eurosteps, fadeaway fakes, etc. For a new player, especially one that's not really interested like parents do, you'd probably stay away. It's the "realism" and all that where 2K just wants to simulate an actual NBA tv program rather than just play for fun. Same goes for most games these days; they all have complex controls and combos for the more advanced player so they don't get bored easily.

My dad loves Candy Crush too. He likes playing most puzzle games and Pool games. My mother does not play any games though. She prefers using social media sites and chatting with her friends online.

I would totally suggest some type of racing game like Need for speed to my dad. He has always been a car fanatic as well as me and it just fits our family persona as well. I know he'd have a blast whipping the 240SX as he has a bone stock 240 that he loves as well as an old RX-7.

I think that it really comes down to the age of the parents. I think that any game would do just as long as they are interested in the subject. I know of some older folks that really like to play golf on their PC when it´s raining.

i would say games easy to play, with good story and good setting, I would say Heavy Rain would be a perfect game for parents if you're looking for them to have a nice time, also I think that some old schools like Prince Of Persia or something like that.

Probably suggest them to play building games or games such as the Sims. For sure they'd be burning all their time once they play those kids of games. Lol. Also simulation games are not bad. Perhaps Goat Simulator? :D

My mom actually loves candy crush and farming games, she is like a more cutie-cute kind of gamer. My dad prefers games like Sudoku, Who wants to be a millionaire or the classics chess games. It’s really funny because when you ask my mom “what are you doing?” she’s like I’m working in the farm, let me work!.

Gta? No way..I think maybe they can play Mario or just some mind-working games..for example, a game which gives you problems to solve.

Games are not only for young ones, adult are also included to have fun and enjoy their old age..
So what kind of game will you want to play with you dad or mum at their leisure time?

Well remember that older folks' eyes aren't as good at tracking motion so you don't want to throw them into anything too twitchy. Also keep in mind that their hands are probably not as adjustable as yours. Aches and pains just go along with getting older, along with the routine "technophobia" that tells them "this controller is too complex for me". They are of a different zeitgeist with very different rules about propriety which may easily clash with the highly permissive culture games tend to be developed in.

Taking these things into consideration I would strongly suggest Nintendo games with a focus on platformers.

I agree on everything. The only game with motion controls that I'd recommend is Mario Kart. Minimalistic button scheme, not too many wrist twists (that's what I'd be the most concerned about) and all in all pretty fun and easy to follow. Just keep them away from Rainbow Road and it will be fine.

Maybe games that are absed primarily around solving puzzles can be pretty for parents, and i suggest Portal game. Everyone i know moved the game's simple yet mind-bending central mechanic.

Suggest them casual games. I find my parents addicted to them, like Candy Crush and Slot Machine games.

I think when it comes to first-time gamers, especially those who aren't as familiar with technology, narrative-heavy games like Heavy Rain or Life Is Strange are good choices. I don't think you could go wrong with the classics, either. Simple platformers like Mario are easy enough to pick up, even if newcomers take a while to get accustomed to the controls.

My dad has only played golf games. The person's individual interests are pretty big, too, and my dad's love of golf overpowers his hesitance to play video games.

My dad plays some simple strategic games every once in a while and my mom isn't interested in gaming at all. Parents of my friends, however, like to play some online quizzes, crosswords or sudokus.

Depends on the parent/grandparent. My dad for example is nearing 60 or so and he was in the height of the silicon valley revolution so he was really into computers and gaming back in the early 80's and whatnot. For him playing games on consoles isn't an issue whatsoever, just a matter of what he likes genre wise. Age doesn't always mean that they should stick to one thing or another. Heck there's a rising trend of 'gaming grandmas' who play COD, Skyrim, ect. Hand/eye coordination does get difficult the older someone gets but it can be trained depending on how willing they are to learn haha. In fact I had a few 50 year olds in my MMO guilds that were decent players.

I would suggest that they should play survival modes like counter strike or special force. I want them to feel the excitement and thrilling of winning every game. It can make also their blood run into their veins lol.

My dad likes to play games but I don't recommend hardcore games. Since my father loves sports especially boxing, I recommend boxing games and racing games. He also likes drag racing and competing on the race. My father is an old aged person and does not know well how to handle complicated controls like in DOTA or any online PC games so simply, I recommend games that as like 3-6 controls only.

The best part is they will be having fun in a way that teaches them not to fear technology. It will help educate them and promote more enthusiasm to explore the strange world of gadgetry we live in today. I've known people who wouldn't even want to pick up a controller who, when they finally broke the ice, quickly moved on to modern games. There are grannies out there playing Call of Duty. We have a 78 year old in our guild in WoW, and he's good, too!
