My dad is a huge fan of racing games while my mom prefers something simpler, like Candy Crush and similar games. It's funny to me how they approach me and ask what games to play when 10-15 years ago they were crapping on video games calling it "entertainment for stupid". I've tried suggesting some more involved games to them, but it seems they're stuck in their choices and unwilling to change.

Well I think the best game to suggest them should be some kind of party game (Mario Party, Rayman Raving Rabbids, stuff like that...). They are game with extremely simple controls, easy to understand for everybody, and the multiplayer aspect is designed exactly to be played with all your friends and family! I think they would be the right pick in this cases!

I don't think my dad has ever played a single video game in his life, haha. My mom likes to play Spider Solitaire on her computer. She doesn't have a way to play it anymore, but she used to love playing Ms. Pac-Man. She'll also play Mario Kart with my four year old nephew. I think it might be a little complicated for her, but I think she would really enjoy a game like Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley. She really likes interior design, so a game that allows her to design and furnish a house would be good for her.

We
I would recommend non complicated game such as tetris and candy crush. Also games like Hay Day will work. Parent are proud so they will not ask their kids to teach them how to play the game so, with these suggestions, they can play it on their own.
I agree.Candy crush is a great choice.They won't quit playing it.

My parents are not computer savvy people. They can't even go online without my help. So, I usually download off line games for them to play on their smartphone when they are bored. SOme of the games they liked best are Solitaire, Mahjong, Jigsaw puzzle and Pop the bubble. They never get tired of those games. I think these game do not require too much thinking.

The best part is they will be having fun in a way that teaches them not to fear technology. It will help educate them and promote more enthusiasm to explore the strange world of gadgetry we live in today. I've known people who wouldn't even want to pick up a controller who, when they finally broke the ice, quickly moved on to modern games. There are grannies out there playing Call of Duty. We have a 78 year old in our guild in WoW, and he's good, too!
Yeah, most elders despise gaming and technology as a whole because they see it as some kind of obscure sorcery, but most of them have grown familiar to TVs and are quite fond of them. They probably wouldn't be as hostile towards videogames if they actually tried it.
And wow, that's one hardcore granny if I've ever seen one!

Oh yeah, she's awesome! You can check out another such person, Shirley Curry on Youtube. She is an elderly lady who took up gaming and plays a lot of Skyrim. That would actually be a game I'd suggest against cutting an elder's teeth on but she plays well and has navigated the troublesome business of recording and uploading her play sessions. I'm really glad she found this, too, because I think open world games could provide a significant quality of life increase to people who have physical restrictions that keep them from being able to participate in life like they once could. I know from first hand experience with back problems that they can restore a sense of freedom in times when you are house-bound.

I can still remember that PS1 game I played with my parents back when I was a kid: Herc’s Adventures! A fun game, plus you can play it with two people! I enjoyed it with my my mom and dad so much.

Games are not only for young ones, adult are also included to have fun and enjoy their old age..
So what kind of game will you want to play with you dad or mum at their leisure time?

Well, it actually depends on the ages of our parents. aif your parents are just in their 30's until about 50's those complicated games could be played by them. But if they are already old like my father, I install them educational games. At least their brains will be refreshed when they are into answering questions and quizzes.

Very mechanical games might be a challenge for elderly people (not impossible though), but if you have a parent at mid-age it's absolutely doable.

I think puzzle games are better for our parents. My mum prefers puzzle games over any other games and has been playing Candy Crush and Farm Heroes for a very long time. Long ago my mom and dad used to play Super Mario.:smileycat: This was when we had our first computer. :tonguewink:

That's a good one, lets see... for my dad, it has to be something really bloody or action like race cars, Assassins Creed, or fights like Street Fighter.
For my mom that's another story, she would have to play something into physical action like sport games, or maybe some strategy games. My mom is way too competitive, so any game that means going up on levels, or fight for a team, that would be her thing.

That's so cool!! I think it helps that she's been playing games for a long time, cause I think a lot of other older people have a hard time adjusting to newer technologies. But you're right -- a game like Skyrim could be really enjoyable for a person who might not be able to travel or do other things. Games are also more mentally engaging than TV or movies, so playing can help older people stay sharp mentally.

That last bit is an area of research I'm very interested in. I've seen studies that suggest keeping mentally active by challenging your mind with lots of new things as you age staves off dementia. I wonder if a steady diet of daily video game sessions has any meaningful impact on that for seniors? It would be a good excuse to convince them to give the hobby a try, at the very least.

If you got a PlayStation then you can play tennis together. It's a fabulous game to play with your family. And if you got mature gamers as your parents then you can play anything as long as you all enjoy it.

Boy, that's gotta be an advantage if you got a game developer mommy/daddy. And even a very big advantage if they're pro-gamers.

Loool! That'll be sooo cool! But the suggest, i think the question should be what game would parents want to play over and over, well either ways it's sure going to be a mobile game, i can't imagine parents with a console..that'll be awkward someway *lool..not all parents yho, but mine in particular Yes! But surely it'll be a mobile game, maybe temple run or something of its nature..that'll look cool on them and not awkward

As a registered nurse here in the Philippines, games that enhances critical thinking and memory are the perfect games for our parents. As we age, we lose neurons (brain cells), they are vital in our nervous system. We do not create new or regenerate dead neurons that's why we should continue to enhance what we have left. Even word search or puzzle games can be used to enhance thinking. They are not into super graphic games because they think its absurd and waste of time hahaha (typical parents) and prolly say that they do not know how to run these kind of things.

There are many options depending on the interest of your parents. I can imagine a lot of dad's would like sports. I really like trivia however my kids don't like playing those games with me. Puzzle and racing games are always good fun for all. Maybe if you make a list of games you and your parents can pinpoint ones you all would enjoy. Happy Gaming!
